Our Fostering and Adoption team provides crucial services to the children and families of West Sussex in the areas of fostering, adoption and special guardianship.  Our goal is to achieve the best outcomes for our children by putting them at the forefront of everything we do – this means listening, being open, being agile and being flexible in our response.

As a member of the Children’s Social Care leadership team, the focus of this position is to lead and develop the Fostering & Adoption team in order to grow our pool of foster carers and adopters, and enhance their support and development to achieve the best outcomes for our children.

We were rated as “Requiring improvement” in our 2015 Ofsted inspection, this is not where we want to be.  We are looking for someone who shares our ambition to be the very best we can be to join us to make a real and positive difference for the children in our county.  This role and you will play a key part in our success.    

These are exciting times - we have recently put significant investment into the service with the recruitment of more social workers and interventions to retain staff.  Working with the Head of Children’s Social Care, this role presents a unique opportunity to work across Children’s Services and with our regional partners, push ‘permanence’ to the top of the agenda.   

You will have significant experience in fostering and adoption and have strong commercial leadership.  You will be able to successfully navigate through complex and overlapping systems both in-house and externally, collaborating with multiple partners and stakeholders.  You will be forward thinking, have innovative ideas, and be able to make bold decisions.  Above all, though, you will bring energy, drive and passion to this crucial service.
