Activity Days for Fostering

Changing Lives

Activity Days for Fostering are a new and important addition to the existing range of family finding practices for children awaiting permanence.

They offer a unique and invaluable opportunity for approved foster carers – and approved prospective adopters who are open to fostering – to meet a range of children waiting for a permanent placement in a prepared, supported, safe and fun environment.

It is hoped that through this innovative approach, and with careful planning and support, just one day could help to change a child's life forever.

Making a connection

Each Activity Day is a themed event, full of child-centred play, activities and entertainment. They are designed to encourage positive interaction between children and prospective carers, who are able to spend time with and get to know one another. Activity Days for Fostering emphasise the importance of personal chemistry in human relationships. We believe that they allow prospective carers and children the opportunity to make a connection that may otherwise have been overlooked by more traditional methods of family finding.

Building on success

Adoption Activity Days are now an established form of family finding and the outcomes for children that have attended have been very positive. In 2015, more than 1,000 prospective adopters expressed interest in at least one child at the 25 events held across the country; as a result, 1 in 4 children were matched and placed with a secure and loving family. At CoramBAAF we realise that long-term foster care has been undervalued as an option for permanence. The 50,000 children currently in foster care also deserve well-matched placements where they feel settled and secure, and are able to achieve their full potential. Poorly matched placements can lead to drift, disruption and traumatic moves. Activity Days for Fostering will speed up and improve the matching process and enable children who do not have a plan of adoption to be afforded the same family finding opportunities for permanence. CoramBAAF is proud to be supporting this new and exciting venture, bringing together children who are waiting for permanence with foster carers who wish to make a long term commitment to a child.
