Theme

Contact has had a primary position in adoption over the last 50 years. But it has also become surrounded by questions about its purpose, its impact and its outcomes. For some it has become little more than occasional exchange of limited and controlled information, for others a key part to their identity and well being. And for others a minor matter when considered in the context of a very unsettled adopted young person.

The conference will explore these themes with the objective of identifying a way forward and one that become embedded in Regional Adoption Agency policy and practice.

Presentations will be made by key sector leaders including Sir Andrew McFarlane, President of the Family Division, Professor Beth Neil, Director of Research Ethics Committee for the School of Social Work at the University of East Anglia and Dr John Simmonds OBE, Director of Policy, Research and Development at CoramBAAF Adoption and Fostering Academy. Other presenters will include those with direct experience of contact in adoption.
