An introduction to the Secure Base Model

A FREE WORKSHOP FOR CORAMBAAF FULL MEMBER AGENCIES ONLY (LOCAL AUTHORITIES, VOLUNTARY ADOPTION AGENCIES AND INDEPENDENT FOSTERING PROVIDERS) IN ENGLAND, WALES, NORTHERN IRELAND AND IRELAND - ONE ALLOCATED PLACE PER AGENCY (MAXIMUM 20 AVAILABLE PLACES PER WORKSHOP), ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. LIGHT REFRESHMENTS (TEA, COFFEE, BISCUITS) WILL BE PROVIDED.

THEME

The Secure Base Model devised by Gillian Schofield and Mary Beek (UEA) focuses on the interactions that occur between caregivers and children, through the provision of a positive framework for therapeutic caregiving, which helps infants, children and young people to move towards greater security and builds resilience.

With children firmly in focus, this workshop provides an introduction to the Secure Base Model framework and specific related tools which enable practitioners to assess prospective foster carers’ and adopters’ parenting capacities and on-going support needs.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Fostering social workers, fostering team/registered managers and fostering panel members, adoption social workers, adoption team managers, special guardianship assessors, children’s social workers and service managers, children’s guardians, residential workers, care workers.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • To provides a framework for considering the skills and capacities associated with offering therapeutic care as part of family life in foster care and adoption
  • To develop critical thinking and reflective practice in the completion of fostering, adoption and assessments relating to parenting capacity and support provision
  • To consider the application of Secure Base resources and tools to specific practice areas
