Webinar: National Adoption Strategy - Why, Where and When

The insight, experience and perspective of Sarah Johal, National Strategic Lead

Sarah Johal, National Adoption Strategic Lead, will be speaking on the delivery of the National Adoption Strategy published by the Department of Education in the summer. The detail and delivery of the Strategy will draw on the Regional Adoption Agencies leaders group in setting out the key priorities, challenges and opportunities in driving up performance, promoting shared accountability for services across the country and identify and filling gaps in evidence.

Dr John Simmonds, Director of Policy, Research and Development at CoramBAAF, will facilitate a Q&A session for attendees. This event is aimed at all professionals working in adoption.

SPEAKER

Sarah Johal is the Head of One Adoption West Yorkshire, the first Regional Adoption Agency (RAA) in England. Sarah has over 28 years’ experience as a social worker and has worked for Leeds City Council developing fostering and adoption services in the city since 2003 as a team and then service manager within fostering and adoption and the wider children’s services. She moved to be a Head of Service for looked after children in Leeds in 2014 prior to taking up the position to lead One Adoption West Yorkshire, the first Regional Adoption Agency (RAA) in England.

Sarah has a CQSW in Social Work, MA Social Work and Social Care & Advanced Award in Social Work and a Post Graduate Certificate in Applied Social Work Management. She is married with two children, now adults and is a firm believer in restorative practice and developing services based on research and evidence of what works well. Key to this approach is working with children, young people, birth and adoptive parents and carers and adopted adults ensuring they have opportunities to have their voices heard and that they can influence decisions and services that affect their lives.
