CoramBAAF will welcome agency members to our annual free reception on Thursday 12 September at the new QEII conference facility on the Coram Campus in London. The event will run from 10.45am (arrivals from 10.15am) till 3.15pm.
This popular annual event, hosted by Paul Curran, the Chair of CoramBAAF’s Board, provides the opportunity for members, CoramBAAF staff and invited speakers to share views on the current most pressing issues facing family placement services, and to help shape how we can best support our members in tackling them.
- Isabelle Trowler, the government’s Chief Social Worker for Children and Families, will share her views on how to how best to address issues around the significant rise of care proceedings over the last ten years including the implications for fostering and adoption. She argues for the need to establish ‘clear blue water’ between those children subject to care proceedings and other children considered to be at risk of significant harm.
- Dr Sariya Cheruvallil-Contractor from Coventry University will explain the complexities of Muslim children’s experiences in the care system including discussing new Islamic guidance on adoption and fostering in the UK.
- Other speakers will cover new developments relating to special guardianship, and the work of the Fostering Across Borders Project (FAB) project which has developed a new training programme plus supporting resources for foster carers looking after unaccompanied migrant children in UK and five other European countries.
Places are limited to one place per agency on a first come, first served basis, and invitations have been sent out to member agency link people.
The event can be put towards Continuing Professional Development for social work practitioners and certificates of attendance will be available.
We hope to see you on the day.
