CoramBAAF celebrates Kinship Care Week 2021
Kinship Care Week provides us with an important opportunity to acknowledge the significance of kinship care. Government data and research are continuing to show an increased emphasis on kinship care, in both local authorities and the courts. Practice and services for kinship families remains highly variable across the country and many services are ‘embryonic in their development’.
The cross-party Parliamentary Taskforce on Kinship Care published their report last year and set out a clear mandate for change. The report calls for government action to address the inconsistency of kinship rights, entitlements and support. To mark Kinship Care Week our friends at Kinship Care Liverpool will be releasing a new animation and the charity Kinship are hosting a range of celebratory events.
CoramBAAF have made our practice note on Financial Support and Special Guardianship freely available to all for the week. This note sets out the legislation and associated case law that local authorities should be aware of when developing policy and practice in relation to payments for special guardians.
