CoramBAAF Webinar

Learning from Research Webinar: Permanency Planning for Children in Care – Are we on track?

THEME

Permanency Planning has become a core topic in the operation of the looked after children system. The term focusses on the importance for every child having a family for life. For those children who cannot be safely cared for by their birth parents in establishing and experiencing this, then this must be created using the options available to the child placement sector.

The development of permanency planning and permanence placements has developed over many years and is embedded in law, policy and practice. The research base strongly supports this including the significant advantages for children in terms of their safety, welfare and development. But research also indicates that there are many children where this does not happen with for some, significant risks that may evolve and influence the rest of their lives.

This webinar will reflect on the development of permanency planning and its evidence base.  It will also explore the current challenges in delivering a permanence plan for every child and whether the current evidence indicates that we are on track in doing so.
