LOOKED AFTER CHILDREN

On 31st July 2017 

  • 14,897 children were in the care of local authorities
  • 145 - the rate of all looked after children per 10,000 under 18 years (108 for those children looked after away from home)

Placements

On 31st July 2017: 

  • 37% (5,449) were living with foster carers (provided or purchased by LA) or prospective adopters
  • 25% (3,766) of children looked after were living at home with parents 
  • 28% (4,138) were living with kinship carers (friends and relatives)
  • 10% (1,509) were living in residential accommodation

ADOPTION

Adoptions from Care

367 looked after children were adopted during the year ending 31st July 2017.
