Overview

Both roles are full-time post 37 hours, which will mainly focus on Recruitment & Assessment of Adopters:

Duties will include providing a duty service for members of the public interested in adopting and taking applicants through the 2-stage process of preparation and assessment. Completion of the Prospective Adopter Report and presentation to the Adoption Panel, matching and post placement support. You will also be involved in preparation training for prospective adopters and delivery of ongoing training workshops to adopters. We have an active recruitment campaign in the community, and via social media. The team also compile reports for the court in respect of non-agency adoption applications.

The successful candidate will have proven assessment skills and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the needs of children in adoptive families. They will also be able to contribute to the further development of the service. There will also be opportunities to undertake other work in post order support and family finding from time to time and support colleagues across children social care.

From 1st April 2023 Buckinghamshire Council will be the lead Council in a new Regional Adoption Agency Partnership: details to be announced.

Essential for the role

Applicants should hold a Social Work qualification with ideally at least three years’ post-qualifying experience in childcare social work, including direct experience of adoption work. Restriction on the Preparation of Adoption Reports Regulations 2005

About the role

Reporting to an Assistant Team Manager the Social Worker is responsible for:

• Promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people
• Improving children and young people’s life chances and outcomes in the care of their parents, or other carers
• To monitor and review the impact of support, protection, and care plans to ensure that these continue to meet children and young people’s assessed needs and circumstances and deliver improved outcomes
• To identify any areas of assessed need that cannot be met and to systematically record the details to report to the Team Manager
• To work in consultation with relevant Managers to ensure that agreed plans are provided using available resources and ensure that all such requests represent value for money


About you

We would like to hear from Social Workers who:

• Have a “Social Work qualification with at least three years’ post-qualifying experience in childcare social work, including direct experience of adoption”. Restriction on the Preparation of Adoption Reports Regulations 2005
• Have an active HCPC/SWE registration
• Have completed their ASYE
• Have extensive experience in a related team – Adoption/Fostering/Looked after Children/Assessment service
• Will care enough to go the extra mile
