CoramBAAF statement following the Child Safeguarding Practice Review: Leiland-James Michael Corkill

  • Date:

The murder of Leiland-James by his prospective adopter is a tragedy. The Local Safeguarding Practice Review by Cumbria Safeguarding Children’s Partnership considers in detail the period from the start of the assessment of the prospective adopters until Leiland-James’ death.

We wanted to remind colleagues that the adult health forms produced by CoramBAAF and used across the UK to collate health information about adopter health were revised and circulated to licence holders in January 2022. These new versions include additional and extended questions about mental health, and more focussed advice to GPs about the safeguarding aspect of the process. Sample copies of the forms can be viewed here.

CoramBAAF is closely considering the review and its recommendations and will consult with our members about the implications for policy and practice.
