Fostering in Colour: Documentary Screening

Fostering in Colour brings together the honest, unfiltered experiences of foster carers from Black and global majority communities: what brought them to fostering, what kept them there, and what the system still gets wrong.

Produced by the Black Foster Carers Alliance, the film opens up a conversation the sector has needed for a long time, about cultural matching, identity, and the children still waiting for the right home.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with foster carers, with time for audience questions.

SPEAKERS

Anji brings over 25 years of fostering experience with her partner Andrew
Having supported 16 children alongside raising their own family, including two daughters and an adopted son. Their journey into fostering began through community connections — a reflection of how powerful word of mouth, faith groups, and local networks can be in changing lives. Today, they are passionate advocates for fostering, particularly within African and Caribbean communities. Anji plays a leading role in building support systems for carers, helping others feel less alone in what can be a challenging yet deeply rewarding role. Together, they champion the idea that fostering is not done in isolation — it takes a village. “Support networks don’t just help carers — they create stability for children.”

Jerrel, a Entrepreneur and Foster Carer Leading in business, nurturing at home.
Jerrel is a foster carer, community leader, and advocate for young people. With his own experience of care, he brings authenticity and relatability to the role. He is passionate about helping young people build confidence, find their voice, and reach their full potential. Jerrel believes the future of fostering lies in listening — to children, carers, and communities — and using those voices to drive meaningful change. “Listen. Learn. Lead. That’s how we change the system.”

Sharon is a dedicated Foster Carer with over a decade of experience.
With over a decade of experience, Sharon has supported 12 children through their fostering journeys. She is driven by a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves to feel safe, heard, and confident in who they are. Sharon understands that fostering is more than meeting practical needs — it’s about advocacy, identity, and ensuring every child has a voice. Alongside fostering, she values self-care through travel, fitness, and quiet moments to recharge, recognising that strong carers create stronger environments for children. “Fostering transforms lives — not just for children, but for families too.”
