CoramBAAF Open Course

Therapeutic Interventions: Making the right choices

THEME

This half day course is aimed at professionals who work with children and families who may benefit from a therapeutic intervention and would like to increase their understanding of different therapeutic approaches. Foster carers, kin carers and adoptive parents who are considering different options for therapeutic support may also benefit from this training.

We will discuss commonly used approaches such as Theraplay, DDP, and Therapeutic Life Story work, as well as therapies such as EMDR, NVR, Music and Art therapy and Sensory Integration Therapy. We will explore factors which might influence recommendations for interventions and how to review whether a specific intervention is the right one for the child and/or their family.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Increase understanding of different therapeutic approaches
  • Explore the factors that may contribute to your choices regarding therapeutic interventions
  • Consider quality assurance and outcome measurement of therapeutic interventions
