CoramBAAF welcomes the Education Committee’s report on children’s social care, which highlights urgent issues such as a shortage of foster carers, inadequate mental health support, and poor outcomes for care leavers. The report makes key recommendations to improve the system, and calls for strong Government action to better support vulnerable children and families.

Life Story Work: Enhancing confidence in direct work with children and the creation of good quality Life Books

In 2015 research, conducted jointly between the UK children’s charity Coram and the University of Bristol found great variation in the quality of life story books across England and Wales with many being of poor quality. The same research found that children were largely poorly prepared to explore their histories, adoption professionals and agencies did not seem to prioritise life story books, and that adopters felt poorly prepared in how to use and update life story books with their children.

As LGBTQ+ people are an ever-increasing proportion of adopters, it's crucial that adoption agencies and professionals adapt to the diverse needs and identities of prospective adoptive parents. New Family Social is the UK’s peer support charity for LGBTQ+ adopters, foster carers, and special guardians. Our presentation will shed light on the unique challenges and opportunities that trans, non-binary and gender diverse people experience within the adoption process. This presentation will equip adoption professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to create an inclusive and supportive environment.

Sibling Assessments: Beyond, together or apart

This open course will offer a comprehensive approach to undertaking sibling assessments. It will explore who the key contributors to sibling assessments are and how assessors can plan assessments and engage these contributors in the process. Most importantly it will explore how to gain the views of the children, observe sibling interactions and draw conclusions on the quality of sibling relationships as well as focusing on the individual needs of each child and of the sibling group.

Social Worker
Social Worker We are looking for a Social Worker to become a vital part of our collaborative and innovative team based in either Milton Keynes or London. Our Social Worker/Senior Social Worker’s role is a pivotal one within our Adoption service. The postholder will undertake ‘home study’ assessments (PARs) and present these to the adoption panel and support families throughout the matching process and once children are placed, up until the Adoption Order. The postholder will participate in recruitment activities and training for prospective adopters.

Parents And Children Together (PACT) Social Worker - Salary in the range of £34,053 - £41,620 per annum. Senior Social Worker - Salary in the range of £39,292 - £48,022 per annum. If based from our London office, a location allowance of £3,299 per annum will be payable. Based in either our Milton Keynes or our London team, with hybrid working arrangements in place for both home and office working, and travel covering Milton Keynes, North London and surrounding areas. 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
