CoramBAAF is pleased to co-author a much needed and helpful guide for practitioners on support planning with kinship families. The guidance was informed by research co-produced by the University of Exeter, Kinship and a network of kinship carers who supported the project throughout. The guidance sets out the key principle that “a clear support plan is an important foundation for kinship care”.

The Supreme Court have handed down their judgment in the appeal In the matter of X and Y (Children: Adoption Order: Setting Aside) [2026] UKSC 13. The judgment affirms the unique nature of adoption as a permanent and final order which cannot be undone.

Exploring Expertise: Shades of Bias – Challenging Discrimination, Oppression and Racism in Social Work and Beyond

The British Association of Social Workers, in partnership with CoramBAAF and the Racial Justice Family Work, invite you to explore Shades of Bias (SoB). Shades of Bias is a versatile case study template designed to enable critical reflection on how discrimination, oppression and racism manifests in social work and beyond. It is a simple process for documenting, analysing and addressing instances of bias, whether it is experienced directly, observed or perpetrated (by the person/people responsible).

What makes a good kinship assessment

This course is an opportunity to consolidate knowledge of kinship assessment practice. It will provide a focus on what constitutes a good assessment, including how to triangulate information, write robust analysis and plan effective support. There will be the opportunity to discuss examples of assessments and support plan alongside case studies. This one day course will reference CoramBAAF’s Kinship Care Assessment (Form K)
