Dennis, Harriett and Flynn live in different families

£11.95

The Dennis Duckling series of picture books provides a range of opportunities to talk to looked after children about what is happening in their lives. In the first two books, Dennis and his little sister have to leave their parents and be looked after by a foster duck family. This book recaps the story, before following Dennis and his siblings as it is decided they need to live apart, in different duck families.

Dennis worries about where he, his sister and baby brother will live. Who will decide about this? What will their different families be like? Will they be able to keep in touch with each other, and how?

Through Dennis’ story, this colourful picture book explains what may happen to a child in this situation – what decisions will be made and by whom, what different families will involve, and if and how children will keep in touch with birth parents and each other. The simple text and open story make this a flexible resource that can be used with children in a range of settings and circumstances – including foster care, kinship care and adoption.

The book contains a booklet with brief guidelines intended to aid and facilitate discussion and to help children express their thoughts and feelings about transitions.

This book is ideal for very young children (aged 2–5 years old) who are being looked after, and who are, or are expected to be, living apart from their brothers and sisters.
