Updated Kinship Care statutory guidance
The government published updated Kinship care statutory guidance for local authorities: October 2026. At a briefing led by Dr Jahnine Davis, National Kinship Ambassador on 5 October, there was a strong emphasises on the need for a stronger whole-system, whole-family and child-centred approach. The updated Statutory Guidance is linked to Families First Partnership, Enduring Relationships Programme, Working together to safeguard children 2026 and Improving the kinship local offer and approach to kinship care.

Private Fostering Awareness Day: Lunch and Learn

This year’s lunchtime session for Private Fostering Awareness Day will focus on the complexities, challenges and solutions in private fostering social work practice. We will hear from local authority practitioners, the voices of private foster carers, parents and young people and consider some of the complexities that arise in private fostering arrangements. The event will also preview the results of this year’s CoramBAAF private fostering survey and the accompanying report will be published on the same day.

Fostering in Colour: Documentary Screening

Fostering in Colour brings together the honest, unfiltered experiences of foster carers from Black and global majority communities: what brought them to fostering, what kept them there, and what the system still gets wrong. Produced by the Black Foster Carers Alliance, the film opens up a conversation the sector has needed for a long time, about cultural matching, identity, and the children still waiting for the right home.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with foster carers, with time for audience questions.

This open course will enable participants to increase their understanding of the role of permanence in children's lives. By reflecting on best practice, it will help those attending to form permanence plans that are geared to improving the outcomes for children and young people, including their emotional, cognitive and physical development.
