CoramBAAF is pleased to co-author a much needed and helpful guide for practitioners on support planning with kinship families. The guidance was informed by research co-produced by the University of Exeter, Kinship and a network of kinship carers who supported the project throughout. The guidance sets out the key principle that “a clear support plan is an important foundation for kinship care”.

The Supreme Court have handed down their judgment in the appeal In the matter of X and Y (Children: Adoption Order: Setting Aside) [2026] UKSC 13. The judgment affirms the unique nature of adoption as a permanent and final order which cannot be undone.

Improving the local offer and approach to kinship care

The event is an opportunity to hear from Jahnine Davies, National Kinship Ambassador, reflecting on the learning in her recent insight report into kinship and what this means for local authorities developing a local offer. She will be joined by senior leaders and managers from local authorities, who will share their experiences and learning from their own journeys developing local offers in their areas.

It will provide a focus on what constitutes a good assessment, including how to triangulate information, write robust analysis and plan effective support.
