The Teazles' baby bunny

£7.95

As an adoptive parent, how do you talk to your young child about being adopted? It is important for them to know about their background, but it can be hard to find words which are age appropriate.

The Teazles’ baby bunny is a colourful and delightful book on adoption suitable for very young children (two to four years old). It tells the story of the Teazle rabbits and their adoption of a baby bunny and is written in rhyme to make it easy for children to remember and repeat.

The book is accompanied by a set of guidelines for adults using the story, not only with children who have been adopted, but with any child, as an introduction to adoption.

Who is this book for?

Adoptive parents who want to talk about adoption with their young adopted children and also with their birth children.

Anyone who wants to talk to very young children about adoption and introduce them to different family structures.

What you will find in this book

The simple story and clear pictures provide a gentle introduction to broaching the subject of adoption. It is a great way to start discussions between parents, carers, social workers and children.

The book will help any adopted child to recognise how special they are and how much they are wanted. It will also make other children aware that there are different ways to build a family.

Any child who likes being read to will enjoy this book. They will quickly learn the sequence of events so that they can anticipate what will happen next and comment or ask questions in a natural and unforced way.

‘The Teazles live in a bright, cosy burrow
By a sycamore tree in Foxaway Hollow
Their home was a happy one except for one thing...
They'd no baby bunny and the joy that would bring’

Reviews

This is a delight to read to children whether or not you are involved with adoption. It is an excellent way of introducing small children to the idea of adoption and the idea of families being formed in different ways. It also reinforces to any child how precious they are to their parents. My small children love stories written in rhyme like this as they quickly learn the words and can fill in the gaps. I would recommend this to anyone with young children.

This is a wonderful book, It really helped us start the process of telling our three-year-old daughter that she is adopted, in a way that she could comprehend. The little booklet at the back was great too, explaining what a child's level of understanding is at certain ages. The great thing about the story is that it's so simple and charming it's easy to embellish it with your journey, making it personal and relevant to your family. I highly recommend it to anyone who has an adopted child, and I imagine it would be very helpful to those wanting to explain the concept of adoption to their birth children.

My little one loves this book and I have read it to her over and over again. Fantastic. Just the sort of story to begin telling her her own life journey.

Love this book. The advice brochure in the back was really helpful too. Lovely well-written book for young children and very easy to explain to youngsters. Great bed-time reading.

This is a beautiful rhyming story that tells how Mummy and Daddy rabbit didn't have a baby and McBadger found them a baby. It tells of their joy and how they prepared their home ready to welcome their little one. It is told beautifully and it was lovely to find a book that tells the excitement of the parents waiting and preparing for their child. My three-year-old daughter loves this book and she now has a little bit more understanding that she was wanted by us and not just given to us. This has made a fantastic addition to our collection of books covering adoption for our daughter.
