Exploring Expertise: International child protection with Children and Families Across Borders
THEME
Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) works with partners in over 130 countries, both as part of the International Social Service (ISS) network and through independent partnerships. CFAB is the UK member of the International Social Service (ISS) – a network of social workers, lawyers and other child protection professionals and partners in over 130 countries. The organisation was established in response to the refugee crisis after World War II in 1955 and has been protecting children who have become separated from their families across international borders ever since.
In this participatory session, we will consider the challenges of managing child protection cases with an international element as well as collaborating with foreign authorities, and navigating cultural, legal, and practice challenges. Michael Nwoye, a social worker from Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB), will be sharing his eight years’ experience managing inter-country child protection cases for CFAB on behalf of UK local authorities and foreign authorities, drawing on his experience of working in the UK and Nigeria.
