Learning from Research: The Reflective Fostering Study – building reflective capacity improves the well-being of foster and kinship carers.

BOOK NOW

Foster and Kinship carers need the right support to be able to provide the best care for the children they look after. The Reflective Fostering Study evaluated an intervention designed to increase carers’ reflective capacity. The Reflective Fostering Programme is a group intervention for carers looking after children aged between 4 and 12 years.  It increases carers’ ability to mentalise about the feelings and thoughts of themselves and the child leading to lower levels of stress and burnout and a better relationship with the child. Resulting in better child wellbeing and improved placement stability,

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • How Foster and Kinship carers’  levels of stress and burnout reduces when they learn how to reflect on their own, and their child’s, thoughts and feelings
  • Whether the evidence that the Programme led to an increase in the child’s wellbeing eight months after carers attended the Programme
