Autumn Budget: significant investments announced to support children and young people
The Chancellor of the Exchequer presented her Autumn Budget to Parliament on Wednesday 30 October 2024.
Commenting on the announcement, CoramBAAF’s Head of Policy, Research and Development, James Bury said:
“The new Government’s first budget delivered some new and much needed investment to support children and young people. Significant investment in the NHS, £1.3 billion of extra funding for local government for essential services, with at least £600 million of that set aside for social care, £1 billion funding towards supporting the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) system and an additional £44 million investment for kinship and foster care is all welcome. Our local authority members still need longer term, sustainable funding for services to give children and young people, and those who support and care for them, the stability for the future.
The government has said that it will set out plans for fundamental reform of the children’s social care system in Phase 2 of the spending review. We look forward to working with both government and partners on this programme of reform.
The Spring spending review and this reform agenda will therefore be very significant for our members and we will keep them updated on announcements, plans and developments.”
