Public Law Working Group Consultation on Supervision Orders
The Public Law Working Group (PLWG) has released the Interim Supervision Order Report for consultation. This closes on 30 November.
The report makes recommendations for short and long term change. In the short term it is suggested that best practice guidance based on the consultation is implemented. In the longer term there are suggestions of:
i. amending the Children Act 1989 to provide a statutory basis for supervision support plans
ii. Placing local authorities under a statutory duty to provide support and services under a supervision order.
iii. Amending statutory guidance to reflect the recommendations in this report and the Best Practice Guidelines.
iv. The Government undertaking or funding an external body to identify all supervision orders made by the Family Court to support family reunification and collect data.
The PLWG invites consultation from those who have a stake in, or are affected by, the children’s social care and family justice systems. Please share your views on this consultation directly with the Public Law Working Group.
