Why these legal guides are in every starter pack

Finding clear, concise guidance on fostering law can be a challenge, especially when time is short and resources are stretched. That’s why we published Fostering now — one of our most popular, easy-to-use legal guides.

Written by experts who understand the demands of fostering practice, the guide is tailored to how professionals actually work. Whether you're a service manager, practitioner, or caseworker, it puts the legal information you need right at your fingertips.

If you are tired of having multiple post-it notes and paperwork as you track down information on minimum standards, or multiple confusing tabs open on your laptop while you search pages of regulations, this book is for you!

"Excellent, interesting, simple straightforward language, no jargon, well laid out, useful reference guide to keep on the bookshelf. Good reading generally."

We know from our customers that resources like this are hugely useful timesavers and essential resources in their work – hence why this guide features in our fostering starter pack as one of the three books all fostering workers need.

After the success of Fostering now, we heard from many professionals asking for a similar resource for adoption. In 2024, we launched a revised version of Adoption now

The “sister” guide, Adoption Now, is for social workers and other professionals who need knowledge of the law, regulations, guidance and standards around adoption. This short guide brings it all together in one easy-to-use book. It is ideal for adoption social workers, but also for children’s social workers or other professionals, who may need occasional knowledge of adoption.

"This handy, pocket-sized guide is designed for adoption workers, who may at times need to remind themselves, or explain to others, points of law, policy or procedure around adoption. All the relevant law, regulations, rules and guidance are included. This is a very handy resource."

Care and Health, Issue 48

We know that social workers are busier today than ever before. In under-resourced and over-stretched agencies, resources that help workers do their jobs in a solid, professional manner, and that save them time in their daily tasks, are vital. To help newly qualified social workers, or those that want to refresh their knowledge, we have created starter packs, with the aim of making these resources available to you in an easily accessible way.

If you have ideas for other books or resources like this, that could help you improve your practice in everyday social work, we’re always interested to hear them – you can contact me via bookshop@corambaaf.org.uk
