National Adoption Week: The Black Adoption Project

BOOK NOW

The Black Adoption Project was created to address stark inequalities facing Black children and families in the UK’s adoption system. Black children are overrepresented in care but often face delays and challenges when it comes to being successfully placed in adoptive families. In this event we explore the reasons for disparities in Black adoption including systemic issues, barriers to the recruitment of Black adopters, and the impact of racism. We hear about the stakeholder-driven approach taken by the Black Adoption Project to try to better understand and begin to address the identified issues. This event will be of interest to those working in any capacity with children in care, within adoption services, and in related areas of practice.

The Black Adoption Project is an initiative of Adopt London, a partnership of four Regional Adoption Agencies in London, and Laurelle Brown Training & Consultancy. You can read more from their phase one findings here: Black-Adoption-Project-Phase-1-Report-March2023.pdf (adoptlondon.org.uk) You can sign up to their mailing list to be kept updated on developments with the project here: Mailing list - Black Adoption Project (office.com)
