Ten top tips for identifying neglect
£7.95
The Ten Top Tips series considers some of the fundamental themes in child care practice in concise, practical guides ideal for busy practitioners.
Neglect can have a serious and long-lasting effect on children’s development. It is a complex and multi-faceted area of work, raising questions about how we identify and evidence neglect and determine the correct threshold for intervention. When is neglect really neglect? How can it affect a child? And what should be included in assessments of neglect? This quick reference guide helps workers to consider their role in identifying and responding to child neglect. It is invaluable for quick reference as well as a prompt for further thought and exploration.
This book is for social care practitioners, both newly qualified and with more experience, along with those working with children and families in disciplines such as health and education.

Reviews
The pocket-sized volume provides a useful introduction to a complex subject, including sections not only on identification of neglect, but on stages on the ‘care career’ of the child from that point onwards. Possibly the most helpful aspect of the book is the consistent emphasis on the child and the presence of the child in the form of direct quotes from young people and adults who have survived neglect.
