Children and young people in the UK are required by law to have a comprehensive health assessment by a trained medical professional when they enter the social care system. Children and young people are usually referred to social services when they experience abuse, neglect and trauma. They are among the most vulnerable members of our society. Children and young people who have been exposed to adverse childhood experiences are more likely to have long-term negative health and social outcomes.
