Join us for an informative and interactive event exploring good practice in the early identification of prospective kinship carers. Many local authorities work hard to ensure kinship care is prioritised as a potential care plan for a child. But this relies on prospective kinship carers – both here and overseas – being identified early and supported to start the journey of potentially caring for a child and becoming a kinship carer.

Join this lunchtime event to hear from two local authorities who have recognised some of the challenges and thought about ways to overcome them.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

Family Group Conferencing: Explore examples of good practice and process in family participation and family group conferencing from Tower Hamlets’ kinship service
Information sharing: Understand how initial assessments and information sharing can ensure that, when a child is at risk of becoming looked after, their wider family are always explored as potential carers; both here and overseas.
Completing initial viability assessments: Learn about the completion of initial viability assessments and how these inform the assessment and care planning that follows from Birmingham Children’s Trust.
