Writing analytical and evidence-based assessments

THEME

The purpose of social work analysis is to provide a clear, concise interpretation of a family situation based on facts and information gathered, with a focus on what that means for a child to inform decision-making. Analysis is not a repetition of facts. In the kinship, fostering and adoption context, this often means analysis being an explanation of how those facts affect carers’ capacity, motivation, strengths and vulnerabilities and what this means for their care of a child, and often therefore what support might be needed. This course is an opportunity to delve deeper into how to write analytical and evidence-based assessments of any kind.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Developed confidence in writing analysis in any type of assessment

  • Reflected on how to include evidence to inform your analysis

  • Explored how our values and ethics influence how we hypothesise and analyse

  • Practised using different tools to support analysis

  • Deepened awareness of the importance of reflective spaces and supervision to support assessment practice
