Collaborating with schools to meet the specific educational needs of children and young people involves creating open channels for communication and feedback. By regularly engaging with students, teachers, and parents, schools can tailor educational strategies to support each child’s unique learning journey and ensure their voices are heard. 

On the third day of Members’ Week you can take part in a session with leading figures from Virtual Schools to find out more about their work and how you can get involved. You can also listen to two brand new podcast episodes with researchers, teachers and advice providers about how working with schools can bring you closer to hearing what the child really needs. 

Virtual Schools - Supporting the education of care-experienced learners

Virtual Schools have been a feature of the education landscape in Scotland since 2019 and England since 2014, yet a series of recent publications have pointed towards a poor understanding of the valuable work they carry out. This session is an opportunity to hear from the Centre for Excellence for Children's Care and Protection in Scotland and The National Association of Virtual School Heads in England on how Virtual Schools support care-experienced children and young people.

What support is there for children and families experiencing school exclusions? 

In this podcast episode, CoramBAAF’s Legal Consultant Augusta Itua, and Richard from Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) will discuss the critical issue of school exclusions and the support available for affected children and their families. They highlight resources from the School Exclusions Hub, advice for navigating exclusions, and efforts to address the disproportionate impact on vulnerable and minority groups.

Sheffield’s assembly squad: challenging stigma in schools 

The Children in Care Council selected two areas of focus from their local authority -  Bright Spots findings - fear of bullying and stigma experienced in school. They created a resource for schools, titled ‘Assembly Squad’, to be used during assembly to challenge stigma and educate children and young people about bullying.
