Growing up in care with multiple disabilities, Susan faced significant challenges, including a lack of proper support and understanding from the care system. Despite these obstacles, a late autism diagnosis at 21 enabled her to pursue higher education and advocate for systemic changes to better support disabled children in care.

CoramBAAF would like to support a better understanding of private fostering and this often hidden group of children. We launched a Private Fostering Survey in July 2024, as a first attempt to gather some basic data about the national picture from our members.

The adoption sub-group of the Public Law Working Group (PLWG) has published its interim report titled 'Recommendations for best practice in respect of adoption'. The PLWG encourages anyone who has experience of, or views on, this area to respond to the consultation.

CoramBAAF welcomes the publication of the Public Law Working Group adoption sub-group report. It contains a wealth of recommendations aimed at supporting the continued modernisation and adaptation of the adoption process.

In October, Pause published a paper highlighting the experiences of birth mothers who have children placed in kinship care. It draws on their learnings from working with over 1,800 birth mothers over the past decade, as well as in-depth conversations with a group of four women who have children placed in kinship care.
